The McCain Pep Talk
February 8, 2008
Well, that settles it. Stick a fork in Mitt. He’s done. http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D8ULL1R00&show_article=1
I guess that leaves McCain as the last man standing. Hooray? Not so much.
Yeah, I voted for McCain (oh the shame) but, there is a part of me that was really hoping Romney would pull it off at the last second. That part would, of course, be my conscience.
I am not exactly jumping for joy that McCain is our man. My main reason for giving my vote to McCain is exactly what a recent campaign ad of his pointed out: McCain is the only one who can beat Hillary or Obama. That is the most important thing to me and it should be to all conservatives. Nothing scares me more than socialized health care and troop withdrawal dates.
So, Limbaugh and Coulter want to say that they will support Hillary Clinton? GREAT! Go ahead, back Hillary in the name of publicity and ratings! I honestly think she may be easier to beat than Obama. I know plenty of democrats that can’t stand her, let alone republicans. I am not in love with McCain but, no one will be able to convince me that he is worse for America than either one of the democrats.
When it comes down to it, would you rather we have a left leaning republican or a far left democrat? Sometimes you just have to vote for the lesser of 2 evils.
So, swallow your pride Republicans. Man up! Grow a pair and admit that McCain is the only choice that we have! We have to stop whining and sounding like a bunch of spoiled liberals (I’m looking at you, Glenn Beck). We have to back McCain and sell him to the hard right because when republicans don’t vote, America loses! We can’t afford to lose anything right now, especially not the war.
Let us try to forget the fact that McCain is not a “true” conservative. Let us instead, wake up and realize that he is the only one running with any conservative values. If that is my only choice, I’ll take it. Besides, McCain is more conservative than people give him credit for. I disagree with him on many things but, the fact is he is strong on terrorism, fiscal responsibility and (for all you bible thumpers) he is pro-life. He may not be the perfect conservative, but he is the only conservative we have. We will just have to keep our fingers crossed about the environment and immigration.
So, quit your grumbling and put that McCain bumper sticker on your car. I will if you will. Ready? Set? You go first.
Where the heck is Jack Kemp when you need him?
It’s About Character, Stupid.
January 19, 2008
I have decided to vote for John McCain.
Now, before you start screaming “traitor”, hear me out. John McCain is not exactly America’s most conservative Senator. I know that. I have issues with his stance on immigration. I have issues with campaign finance reform. But, the truth is, at this point McCain may be the only Republican I actually respect.
I like Mitt Romney. I think he is smart and God knows he is attractive (but, if all I care about is smart and attractive then I might as well vote for John Edwards, God forbid). The thing that I don’t like about Romney is that he wants to test the water before he gives his opinions. He wants to see what America thinks before he tells us what he thinks. I don’t like that and I don’t trust that. I really want a President that can think for himself.
I like Mike Huckabee. Who doesn’t? (Well, besides Romney.) Huckabee is a NICE guy. I am a sucker for the “awe shucks” candidate. But, Huck has a bad habit. He says a lot of stupid stuff. It’s like he just says whatever comes to his mind. He says insulting things that he may or may not mean as an insult and he throws religion around a lot. http://rawstory.com/news/2007/Huckabee_Amend_Constitution_to_meet_Gods_0115.html He reminds me of a certain President that has the lowest approval rating in history. Another guy I really like. I won’t tell you his name but his initials are George W. Bush. I can just look at “Dubya” and see what Huck would be like in office… daily media beatings and the but of world wide jokes. Yeah, I don’t think we need another guy like Bush.
Thompson doesn’t even want to be the President and who can blame him? He would be the perfect conservative candidate if he actually changed out of his house slippers and did a little stumping.
Rudy? Well, if I were to vote for him, I would have to admit to myself that character doesn’t matter. And it DOES matter. Rudy strikes me as shady and untrustworthy. I think he is a bad ass, which I like. But, being tough might be his only good quality. That is not good enough for me.
If nothing else, this election comes down to experience and character. The only candidate that has the experience to win and end this war is John McCain. McCain has been right about the war since day 1. The only candidate with character that I trust to do what he believes is right (even if I don’t agree with him) is John McCain. John McCain is the only choice as far as I can see. I guess if it came down to it, I would vote for Romney. And, let’s be honest, ANY of the Republicans (including that loon, Ron Paul) are better than either one of the democrats… especially Monica Lewinsky’s ex-boyfriend’s wife.
Terrorism and Arizona- The REAL Immigration Problem
November 27, 2007
Never have I felt more like telling John McCain and George W. Bush to stick something in their pipes and smoke it!
If you don’t know what I am referring to, perhaps you didn’t catch the latest (largely IGNORED) story about terrorists targeting an Army base… IN ARIZONA! http://www.washingtontimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071126/NATION/111260034/1001
With the aid of Mexican drug cartels, possibly up to 60 Afghan and Iraqi terrorists were to be smuggled into the U.S. through underground tunnels and were planning an attack on Fort Huachuca, just outside of Tucson, Arizona.
This story hits a little close to home for me… litterally. Tucson is my home town. All of my immediate family lives there and most of my good friends. My best friend lives only a few miles from Fort Huachuca and her husband (who is in Iraq right now) is based out of there.
Here is the real problem with illegal immigration.
I am from Tucson. It is a border city. No one knows how dangerous open borders are more than someone who lived with them. But, yet, if I say that I am against illegal immigration, that just makes me a racist, doesn’t it? It couldn’t possibly be because I love this country and want to keep it secure! No! The public would rather beleive what the left spoon feeds them! That if I am against amnesty for undocumented ILLEGAL aliens, then I must own a pointy white hat! This kind of thinking and this kind of generallizing is the real danger. Political correctness is killing America.
I am not a racist.
I shouldn’t have to say that before I say that I want a damn WALL and the National Guard at the border of my country! I am not anti-Mexican. I am pro-America! Sure, when I lived it Tucson, it pissed me off as much as any tax payer to go into the Emergency room that 1/2 of Mexico decides to use as their own free health clinic. My friends would tell me the stories of their elementary school age children getting their homework pages sent home to them in Spanish! It infuriated me when my mother and 2 brothers were nearly killed in a car accident because they were hit by an illegal Mexican immigrant with no driver’s license and no car insurance. I hear the stories everyday (no thanks to the main stream media) about the illegal immigrants who commit all kinds of heinous crimes. http://www.immigrationshumancost.org/text/crimevictims.html Of course, this is an outrage!
Let us not forget that immigration policies are put into place to protect Americans, not to harm immigrants. Sometimes, unfortunately, well meaning people do get harmed, and that is a shame. And, yes, we all need our lawns mowed and our houses built. But immigration policies are about NATIONAL SECURITY and that should be priority #1!
Write your congressman! Keep the terrorists and drug dealers out of your country! Don’t let the military base in your town be the one that they sucessfully attack!
The Norris Factor: Chuck Norris endorses Mike Huckabee
November 20, 2007
Now, maybe it is just me, but, I think the new Chuck Norris/Mike Huckabee commercial is a riot.
Yesterday I heard Todd Schnitt on the radio ranting and raving about it saying that he didn’t understand who it was geared toward. And, to tell you the truth, I think that is the problem. Maybe the media doesn’t “get” it! I saw the ad and then immediately forwarded it to everyone on my list with the message, “I know I said I am leaning toward McCain, but, I think I just changed me vote!”
Many a truth is said in jest.
The media in general (and especially Todd Schnitt, I would think) is aware of all of the stupid Chuck Norris jokes that my generation (gen “x”ers) find so funny. They must be! There are pages and pages of them clogging up the web. http://www.chucknorrisjokes.net/ http://message.snopes.com/showthread.php?t=323 Admittedly, these jokes are not funny to some… there is no question that it is generational humor.
But, here is the thing… most of my friends don’t know much about politics. Some, okay, MOST of my 25-30 year old friends just label themselves one thing or another and watch the news once a month or so… probably in a mechanic’s or Dr.’s office waiting room. So when I got response after response to my e-mail that said “I’m in.” and “He has my vote” it made me stop and realize something: Many of my friends did not even know what a “Huckabee” was a week ago and now they are Googleing his name and saying they will vote for him. Nothing has ever motivated the under 30 crowd to vote! Not the draft, not free concerts, not even P-Diddy! Can Chuck Norris do it? I know there is a new Chuck Norris joke in there somewhere.
The Generation ”X”ers may not actually vote for Huckabee but, he certainly peaked their interest enough for them to look up from their text messages and lattes. I think the spot is brilliantly funny and hip. No amount of pictures of Obama in swim trunks can top that.
Should we turn this election into stand up comedy? Certainly not. (Besides, Hillary makes Jamie Kennedy’s stand up look entertaining.) And, I understand everyone’s concern about making light of the serious issues, but kudos to Huckabee for lightning the mood. I’d love to see those old clips of Rudy Giuliani in drag on Saturday Night Live make a comeback.
Fair warning: if Huckabee shows up at a campaign stop wearing a “Don’t Hassle the Hoff” t-shirt and calling himself “McLovin”, he will probably get his own reality TV show.
Jena 6 March
November 18, 2007
So, guess where I was this weekend? If you said Tampa, Florida you would be wrong. I was in Washington, D.C.
I was minding my own business and enjoying a day in our nation’s capitol. It was chilly so I thought I would duck into the National Archives and take a look-see. As I was leaving and trying to make my way back to my hotel at M and 22nd, I saw a large group of people crowding the street. I decided to walk that way to see what was going on only to be caught in the middle of the Jena 6 march around the Department of Justice. Needless to say, my blonde head was really sticking out in the crowd. I wasn’t alarmed. I wasn’t afraid for my life or belongings and, believe it or not, Mr. O’Reilly, “There wasn’t one person (in Sylvia’s) who was screaming, ‘M-Fer, I want more iced tea.’ ” People were thanking me for coming out to support their cause even though I carried no sign and wore no “End Racism Now” t-shirt. Unlike Mr. Bill O’Reilly, I wasn’t surprised. I am just happy to see people with a cause.
I believe in their cause to some degree… not enough to march for it, but, hey, when in Rome…
The truth is, I didn’t feel the “white guilt” that maybe I am supposed to feel for being a southern white girl accidentally swept into a crowd of marchers that I couldn’t escape from for about a block. I didn’t even feel guilty for just trying to get out of there and get back to the Ritz Carlton. I did nothing wrong to these fine folks and I expected them to do nothing wrong to me. For the most part, they were singing and smiling and laughing. They weren’t the angry mob that I read about the next day in the paper. Maybe it is all a matter of perception.
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/11/16/national/main3515365.shtml
It was a little ironic, however, when I went to catch a cab the next morning at the hotel and who is standing behind me waiting for a cab (or limo, most likely) of his own? Say it with me now… The Reverend Al Sharpton, of course… I’m just saying.
