Hope and Change: the Ultimate Resume Replacement
February 22, 2008
I really HOPE we can CHANGE the focus of this Presidential election to issues that actually matter.
I am so tired of hearing about HOPE and CHANGE from Obama. If all we needed was HOPE then you would be reading my blog from the Washington Post website and I would be writing it from Maui.
Obama’s campaign is based on these 2 words that mean relatively nothing. Obama has no record to back up his Presidential aspirations. He is a Junior Senator. He has yet to complete 1 term in the U.S. Senate. All he has is a couple of buzz words and a nice smile. But, nonetheless, half of America is following this empty suit with a 1 page resume like he is the second coming.
Why? Because we are Americans. We don’t like things that make us think. We don’t read instructions or nutrition labels and we sure the hell don’t over think our politics. We want it given to us just as plain and simple as you can make it. Some will say that this is why John McCain’s so-called “Straight Talk” works so well. Some would be correct. But, the difference is, when McCain is questioned about the issues, he has real answers about his policies and his platform. Barack Obama has “HOPE” and ”CHANGE”.
Change is not always a good thing. If change comes at the hand of someone who is practically a communist, we may not be so in favor of it. Change for the sake of change is just dangerous. But, the truth is, Obama probably wouldn’t CHANGE a whole lot of anything. Sure, he says he would, and that is so cute how he thinks he will just go into the oval office and overthrow Capitalism, but, honestly, we wouldn’t stand by and let much of that happen. Then where does all that CHANGE go? Right out the window, that’s where.
Let’s consider the other, more frightening, possibility. Obama does begin to change things in the way that he sees fit and all of us “average Americans” aren’t really paying attention. (NO! Not us!) Then what? Before we know it we have an immediate troop withdrawal, socialized health care, a massive illegal alien invasion and taxes so high that we actually envy Canada.
According to the National Journal’s 27th annual vote ratings, Obama was THE MOST liberal member of senate in 2007. http://nj.nationaljournal.com/voteratings/ Wow. The most liberal! More liberal than Ted Kennedy and, yes, more liberal than Hillary Clinton. Talk about a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Maybe the question we should be asking is not if America can handle having a black President. Maybe the question we should be asking is if Barack Obama can handle being the President. Take a look at his proposed budget. Here you go, kids. If you want an example of a nanny state, this is it. http://www.gop.com/obamaspendometer.htm Forget working hard for what you have. Forget the “American way”. It kind of makes Bill Clinton look like a total fascist, doesn’t it? I, for one, would rather move to France than hand my paycheck over to Obama for all of his social projects.
I can only HOPE some people read up on Obama and CHANGE their votes. In the meantime, I’ll just happily sit back with John McCain and watch the democrats beat the piss out of each other a while longer. If it’s one thing I know about the democrats it’s that they’d rather destroy each other and push their fringe left agenda, than win. Oh, yeah, that’s the stuff conservative dreams are made of.
First, I think this is dead on. Obama is a blank slate. We have no idea what he’s going to do. But I challenge anyone with a decent aptitude at math to parse his economics speech and tell me I won’t be taxed out the ass because I’m (seomwhat) successful and making a decent living. If you really do spend sometime looking at Obama’s ideas, the problem with every one of them is “how do you pay for it”.
That’s why (personally) I wanted a candidate with some degree of fiscal AND management experience. I’m afraid too many people on the right forget that a president can’t simply overturn roe v wade.
I will say this – we should rally around McCain if for no other reasons than a. he’s steadfast on the middle east, which imho has been minimized as an issue this election cycle and b. hillary would be worse and obama would be much worse. Quite honestly, I’m convinced we cannot let up on islamofascism and, at the very least, we know McCain will push that agenda to some extent. That was my major issue in the 2004 election. Its a shame 43 isn’t getting more recognition for his doctrine coming to fruition (which I believe it is).
Think about it- how many countries have held elections, in which the US did some degree of monitoring- alot. Countries should be free to choose their own destiny as a people and there is no country that wants each nation to be self sufficient then the US. I thought it was telling that even though the election in Pakistan seemed to go against the US, at least that country elected a government democratically.
You can’t criticize the man, because that’s considered racist. That’s about all he’s got going for him.
Its simple. Fully vet Obama. From a strategic standpoint, I’d wait until the general election. Compared to Obama, McCain’s a .. well not a moderate but he’s better. Period.
I don’t think Hillary can catch up but like John Kerry 4 years ago, the MSM and the democratic party are aware of the incredible downsides of their potential candidate. And in some ways, the MSM will have no choice in the general election to vet their candidate. I think Obama snowed alot of the MSM and if they had done their homework, Hillary would have been the nominee. But I assumed, 3 months ago, when none of Obama’s negatives showed up in the democratic primary, that there was going to be more to the story and that more was going to come out once the general election was in play. the MSM wants ratings/blood/blog hits- I’m not sure how they judge success now but eating Obama alive is going to be the theme for months. The irony is, while conservatives have a problem with McCain. the MSM, in some ways will cover McCain’s flaws b/c quite honestly, he’s a better candidate then either Obama or Hillary. Plus, my thought is McCain will only stay 4 years before passing the torch. Bush 43 was young when he took office but McCain is not. Whoever he picks as his VP, is the next serious presidential candidate and I guarantee you, whoever he picks (I’m voting Thompson, Romney, Guilliani in that order) will be the 2012 republican candidate and I will get behind any of those 3.
I hope to change my underwear sometime in the next year. I will then change my hope to something equally profound. If you click on the link you can listen to the B.O. Bomma song.
